Not one, but two power poles were the targets of a recent car accident in West Sacramento. Early Thursday morning, a car turning the corner of Gregory Avenue lost control and slammed into a power pole. The car immediately spun around and collided onto a second power pole.
Both poles snapped and dangerous power lines were left hanging over the road.
Neither the driver nor the other two passengers traveling in the vehicle were injured. Luckily, alcohol was probably not the cause of the car accident, but, according to authorities, speed likely was the reason the driver lost control.
According to smartmotorist.com-an online guide to motorist news and driving-speed is one of the top contributing factors to automobile accidents. They say that many drivers would agree that going 100 mph is dangerous, but not necessarily too hazardous for those traveling a few miles over the recommended speed limit. Smart motorist, however, indicates that "exceeding the speed limit by only 5 mph in the wrong place can be just as dangerous."
The West Sacramento incident is just such an example.
According to most recent statistics provided by the California Highway Patrol, there were a total of 426,228 traffic collisions in California in 2009.
